wintertime at home

Are we done yet?

Usually a patient person, I am finally fed up with not having a bathroom!  It is frustrating to have it right there and not be able to use it!  But we do have progress and art!

vanity installed, working and travertine top sealed!

Things that still need to be done:
1. molding sanded and painted
2. 2 tiny pieces of molding added
3. toilet hooked up
4. vent installed (original one was rusted!)  did I forget to mention the bathroom is not properly ventilated? that is being fixed...
5. caulking
6. purchase a large switch plate...um the switch plate pretty much summarizes the bathroom issues...lets put it this way Holmes on Homes would have had a field day!
7. painting touched up
8. find a mirror (rethinking the whole medicine cabinet thing)
9. add those decorative and functional details (rugs, toilet paper holder, towels and towel bar...)
10. unpack the rest of our bathroom stuff

I also started the mural in the playroom...
Noah's ark is turning into a pirate ship!

This wall is going to look a little like a treasure map!

New Year's Resolution & Updates...

FYI, I hate giving things up for lent or for new year's.  If I give it up I just want it more...not a good situation.  So for 2011 my resolution is to have a year of family dinners.  We are reviving the Sunday Supper!  99% of the time we eat together as a family anyways but one of my co-workers has a multi-generational Sunday supper and thus my inspiration.  It just seems to make that family bond stronger.  Due to space limitations we haven't gotten too crazy with the guest list but each weekend we have been having extended family or close friends for supper.  I am hoping this will become a habit for our family.  However, I secretly can't wait until cook-out season - paper plates, grilling, nice wide open spaces...

Bathroom update...shower is working!  The vanity is in but not yet installed, excellent quality!  Thinking of his and hers medicine cabinets over the sinks (the more storage the better).  I found one I like at Lowe's but need to double check the measurements.

Also at the Lowe's website found a lighting fixture!  This would be the main light source and is right over the walkway so we need a flush mount since hubby isn't short like me!  There is also recessed lights over the vanity.  I found some decorative trim for them at Home Depot but it looks like you have to buy the whole set together (including light installation kit) - if anyone knows where I can just get decorative circle trim for recessed lights please comment.

On the agenda this week - painting the ceiling and patching the walls.  I just want this room done it has taken too long and has had too much drama!
