Dreamin'

Today I am dreamin' about everything that we hope to accomplish on the house...

This year:

Remove tree on side of house (hopefully this weekend).

Rent steam roller to smooth out millings on driveway.  In the pic, millings have been spread on the left and the right side still needs 'em.  Luckily hubby got done everything last night this pic is a little dated.  Got a heck of a deal on millings from my gal, Diane!

Replace the roof.

Clubbing in the breezeway- this will enlarge the living room and give us a laundry/mud room. (like the fence to keep the babies out?)

Opening up the floor plan a bit.  Removing the white elephant of a fridge is step one.  Once this is done we will be able to open up the tiny doorway.  We will also be able to get rid of the horrible bump-out in the living room.  Whoever heard of building out around the back of a fridge?

We need to find a mason to turn the wood stove opening into a traditional fireplace.  We also need a chimney cap...maybe other fireplace stuff too?  do they have liners?

Ceilings in the living room, dining room and foyer need to be replaced.  The foyer is in the worst shape...kinda afraid to see what is under there since the bathroom is above it...yikes!

The kitchen is going to be remodeled, new cabinets (the existing ones are actually rotting at the bottom), new floor (the existing one is faded and pink in places), new appliances or at the minimum a new fridge we will have to see how the budget goes...oh, how I loathe side by sides!  I have made the decision to do this on a budget; I figure if we stay in this house for the long haul (which we are thinking that is the plan) I will eventually get the kitchen of my dreams after the kids are old enough not to destroy it!  I am in search of economical cabinets, my favorite so far is Mei Kitchen's Honey with Brown Glaze.  I also want linoleum floors - they are easy to wipe up after messy children and durable and inexpensive.  I am leaning towards a pineapple kitchen!

When we have the linoleum in the kitchen installed I want to get linoleum in the boys bathroom installed as well.  I also would like to get a new vanity for that bathroom, Home Depot has some really nice and reasonably priced standard size vanities.  Most have sinks included and some even come with mirrors!  Hubby wants to keep the existing one so we will see how that goes.

After the bathroom and living room are finished we can get the upstairs hall, steps and living room carpeted.  I am pretty sure we are going with a berber.  My mom also gave me a great tip, buy 2 sets of carpeting for the steps and halfway through the life of the matching carpets have the steps replaced since they always wear more.

By next year:

Dining room - replace ceiling, remove wallpaper, paint

Rip down horrible deck (recently cracked) yikes!

Pour concrete patio and sidewalks

Maybe later:

Landscape (take down overgrown trees in front of the house), plant rock gardens around the house.  Hubby wants to add a pond or waterfall (flowing towards the house).

Replace siding.

Exhausted yet?  I am!
