soon...

Hopefully we will be moving into our new rooms this week.  Today carpet is supposed to come and start to be installed!  I could hardly sleep...it is like Christmas!  Everything is pretty much done except for the fireplace mantel and one window needs a sill installed.  Special thanks to hubby and his dad, they worked so hard on making this house a home for our family!

coming together

This weekend was a busy one!  I painted the family room ceiling (ouch!) and hubby re-worked the kitchen layout.  We are busting our behinds trying to get everything ready for carpet which should be delivered for my birthday, next week!

In this pic you can see the doorways into the foyer (the one with the paint can and baby gate) and the family room (the doorway with the broom propped against it).  There is a tiny strip of wall between these two kitchen entryways that is pretty narrow.  I am thinking about getting a long grille that looks like a garden gate to mount there so it is more pleasing to the eye.  Baroness Wall Gate is one I am considering...

Hubby sawed off the island-ish counter.

Now I have access to the pantries when we are at the table!

Can't wait to get rid of this ugly kitchen!

Today after work I primed the family room...

fireplace...we got the Dimplex 39" electric fireplace with swing doors and trim - found an excellent and cheap dealer through ebay!

i got a little crazy with the paint...don't know how I managed to get it in my hair when I wasn't painting the ceiling tonight!  long day!

freakin' roller wouldn't come off...I gave up...will try again tomorrow!

Stay tuned...color will be added to the walls this week!

ode to daddy

 Dear Dad,

Thank you for kicking my butt when I was little - at times you felt like quite the slave-driver.  I did not enjoy washing your truck 3 times (fyi, that is how many times I had to wash it before I showed you to get your seal of approval) and I secretly hate the smell and oily-ness of armoral; I loathed shoveling snow from the quarter mile driveway; I got frostbite putting up Christmas lights and was afraid you were going to fall off the ladder; it was kinda gross helping with that deer; I got loopy painting the porch railings in the attic with mom; I know sawdust does not sweep itself up...and a bunch of other callous-y, achy, annoying and painful memories.

This past week, while priming my new rooms at ten o'clock at night -after working a full day and taking care of the my mommy duties- I realized you were preparing me for the real world (and while I do still hate that tv show I really enjoy life).  You gave me something pretty special by pushing me so much when I was a kid - drive and a hard working nature.  So here it is..................THANK YOU!

New roof, painting and light fixtures

New roof

Jacked up porch! (needs paint), siding needs some power washing too!

Mudroom...check out the light...thank you Mr. & Mrs. L!  They were remodeling and gave me this beauty! (and a second one that we will use in the foyer)

Craft room - light was a $5 yard sale find!
I am loving this color...it is even prettier in person kinda like a robin's egg blue with a touch of green.

Daddy's little helper!

Check out the switch plate, D!

Dusty Days

Mudroom...needs a little more "mud" and it will be ready for primer and paint
For paint we will be using our left over Maple Sugar...a tan color we used in our bedroom.
Hoping the paint will look good with my floor that I am in love with, Mannington Jumpstart Tibetan Slate, it has such texture...love it!

FAMILY ROOM
Today's big project...making the fireplace.  Yes, we covered up the brick...sorry it was not my style!

This door way connects the addition to the house...that plastic has done a great job at keeping the dust out of the house.  Next project is to open up that lovely bump out.  The bump out was actually made for the refrigerator that is on the other side of that bump.  Sorry, I have no love for the bump.

Below is the view from the family room into the office/craft room.

Office/ Craft Room

I am so excited...this room is almost ready for primer and paint...a spot in the closet needs to be sanded and then I can go to town!  I picked a light aqua/turquoise-ish color for this room.  I also got adorable DKNY curtains from Tuesday Morning...they are super cute - Andy hates 'em.

Update: roof is finished!  crew needs to come back tomorrow to put back drip-guard/edge-thingy.  We also got the front porch jacked up so it is not pulling away from the house anymore!  pics to come

check out the crazy bump out by the blue ladder...that is clearance for the refrigerator on the other side!  How ridiculous!  This bump out will be a doorway soon.

Comin' along...

The house is coming along...which is good because I am tired of construction!  We were hoping to be in a position to purchase the kitchen cabinets for the Labor Day holiday.  Looks like we are now going to try for Columbus Day, fingers crossed for a sale and progress on the house.  We should also have a new roof by Halloween!  The hurricane tore a few shingles off.

Windows are due to be delivered on Wednesday!

Front view (double window will be going here)

Back view (single window will be going where the slider is and in the new section - single windows on both sides of the fireplace)
